We cannot live for ourselves alone. Our lives are connected by a thousand invisible threads.

— Herman Melville

CanDo is all about connecting, inspiring, and empowering both individuals and groups. We believe that when we align our efforts and work together, we grow and thrive. We are collaborative, not competitive.

Before starting any project here’s what we do:

  • We do our homework to determine whether or not the need is real and – if it is – how we can avoid duplicating efforts.
  • We explore what’s been done in the past. We meet and talk with others in the community who have similar concerns.
  • We see if there is a place for us to work together to fill in gaps or to strengthen and support the ongoing efforts of others.
  • If the team is satisfied these criteria are met, we move ahead.

Here are some of the ways we’ve collaborated with other NPOs, governmental entities, and businesses to help our communities thrive.

In each year’s CanDo’s Napa Valley Give!Guide, we provide opportunities for featured NPOs to work together closely as they collaborate to raise funds and awareness.

CanDo is an active partner in Napa’s annual Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration of Our Beloved Community. Our members sit on the steering committee and host activities on Napa’s MLK Day of Action and Compassion.

CanDo volunteers collect recyclables and trash from the banks of our river on Napa’s annual Earth Day celebration, in partnership with the Napa County Resource Conservation District’s Waterway Keepers and the Napa Flood Control District.

Since 2014, Treasury Wine Estates has invited CanDo to organize activities for their annual Global Week of Volunteering. Dozens of local TWE employees choose from a menu of volunteer opportunities curated by CanDo in partnership with local NPOs and government entities.

A CanDo member regularly attends Safety Net Food Committee meetings. By sharing resources and minimizing duplication of services, this collaboration of local agencies aims to efficiently provide access to nutritious food to Napa County neighbors in need.

To foster collaboration, NPOs and community organizations are always invited to post announcements, volunteer opportunities and special events in CanDo’s weekly e-Newsletter, The CanDo Connection.

CanDo is often asked to organize a short-term volunteer event for out-of-town corporate groups that are visiting Napa. We’re always thankful for their generosity as they pull weeds in our garden, sort canned goods at the CANV Food Bank, or collect trash from our waterways.

Collaborating NPOs+

This group of community-minded businesses puts their money, time, and in-kind donations where their hearts are. Please support their efforts. CanDo couldn’t do it without them.
