Fresh, local produce for Napa Valley Food Banks

CanDo CanGrow had its beginning at the 2014 Napa Food Day, when some CanDo volunteers and members of Napa County Master Gardeners realized that there is a need for more fresh produce at our Napa Valley Food Banks. On land donated by the Napa community Garden, during 2014 a core group of 5-6 CanDo volunteers and Master Gardeners grew and donated 1,533 pounds of fresh summer vegetables for the Emergency Food Pantry on Yajome Street.

During the 2015 growing season, both the garden space and the cadre of volunteers grew. Students from the Napa County Office of Education schools, their staff, and a committed group of 10-12 volunteers worked in the garden twice a week, yielding almost 2,000 pounds of fresh, local, organic veggies for the Pantry.

Our next step is to encourage other gardeners - whether their garden is at home, at school, or at their place of work - to "Plant One For The Food Bank." Several Napa Valley wineries, schools, and places of business have already accepted the challenge. Won't you be next? Contact Karen at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
